Commentary on Deuteronomy 6:6 (Summary)

This is again about the commandments, the statutes and the rules (Deuteronomy 6:1) that Moses was commanded by the Lord to teach the people. This instruction was to be deeply ingrained in their hearts so that it would constantly be on their minds. Later in his speech, Moses therefore says, You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul (Deuteronomy 11:18a), that is, you shall internalize them. Those who are so intently occupied with God's commandments will also demonstrate this in their daily lives.
