1. Isaiah 50:10–11 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Who is the speaker in Isaiah 50:10–11?

Isaiah 50:10–11 (ESV)

10 Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.

There is some debate as to the identity of the speaker in this final section of the chapter. Some regard the Servant as still speaking in these verses. Others, however, do correctly see the Lord as the speaker. It is characteristic, as also Muilenburg points out, that the shift from third to first person is something characteristic of prophecy.1
