1. Isaiah 50:8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does the servant mean with saying that his vindicator is near?

Isaiah 50:8 (ESV)

8 He who vindicates me is near. Who will contend with me? Let us stand up together. Who is my adversary? Let him come near to me.

There is some debate whether the mention of the Lord’s nearness refers to time (eschatological) or space (proximity). Support is stacked in favour of the latter; indeed, the Servant literally says, Near is the one who vindicates me. That is, the vindicator is at hand, ready to support his own.1
