Psalm 17:1–15 is a model prayer. It offers an example of using arguments to make one’s appeal to God. David is not simply noting what he needs. He makes his case as to why God should grant him his requests. He does this not because God needs to be persuaded to help, but because David is thinking carefully though what he needs to ask the Lord.1
1 Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit!
