1. Psalm 17:6 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What accounts for David’s certainty and his command that God will hear his prayer?

Psalm 17:6 (ESV)

6 I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words.

David speaks with certainty that the Lord will answer his call, and he calls on the Lord to hear him. He can do so because of what he has been saying. He bears a just cause (Psalm 17:1). The Lord has tried and tested him and found nothing (Psalm 17:3). And the word of the Lord has kept David from the ways of the violent (Psalm 17:4–5). David is certain that the Lord will answer with justice.1
