1. 2 Samuel 7:3 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What did Nathan mean by saying that David should do all that was in his heart?

2 Samuel 7:3 (ESV)

3 And Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you.”

Nathan encouraged David to act on his conviction (see 1 Samuel 10:7) and make a plan to construct a better and more permanent shelter for the ark.1 The prophet thereby affirmed the king’s desire and he did so because David’s plan was good and not out of step with God’s revelation.
