According to 1 Chronicles 16:39–40 there was a tabernacle erected at Gibeon (see 1 Kings 3:4; 1 Chronicles 21:29; 2 Chronicles 1:3, 2 Chronicles 1:5, 2 Chronicles 1:13).1 David must have erected another, different tent in Jerusalem (see 1 Chronicles 16:1, 1 Chronicles 16:37) to serve as a repository for the ark.2 Presumably this tent would have been constructed according to the same or similar designs as those for the tabernacle.
17 And they brought in the ark of the LORD and set it in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
