1. 2 Samuel 5:25 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is significant about David striking down the Philistines all the way from Geba ("Gibeon," NIV) to Gezer?

2 Samuel 5:25 (ESV)

25 And David did as the LORD commanded him, and struck down the Philistines from Geba to Gezer.

It was a long way from Geba to Gezer, a distance of roughly 32 kilometres.1 By driving the Philistines in this direction, David liberated Israelite territory that had been occupied since the battle of Ebenezer (1 Samuel 4:1–11).2 As a result of this victory, Israel was now the dominating political and military force in the region,3 and there would be no further threat from the Philistines in 2 Samuel.4
