Zadok was a descendant of Eleazar (1 Chronicles 6:3–9). He was the inheritor of the prophecy made regarding Phinehas (Numbers 25:12–13).1 He would function as a priest and also as a court prophet (2 Samuel 15:27), 2 remaining loyal to David during Absalom’s rebellion (2 Samuel 15:24–29) and during Adonijah’s attempt to claim his father’s throne (1 Kings 1:8).3
