Commentary on Job 39:18 (Summary)

Job 39:18 (ESV)

18 When she rouses herself to flee, she laughs at the horse and his rider.

It is as if God gave the ostrich speed, to make up for its foolishness. God does not explain his reasons for making the ostrich the way it is. In fact, in God’s entire address to Job, he never stops to explain his reasons. Job should learn from this that God is sovereign and that his ways are above human understanding.
