2 Samuel 7:18–29 (ESV)

18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and said, “Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?

The books of 1 and 2 Samuel seek to ask and answer two important questions, namely:

  1. Will kingship help Israel obey the terms of the old covenant and flourish in the Land of Promise?
    Kingship will not help if the king is someone who refuses to obey the Lord and walk in his ways.

  2. What kind of king does Israel need?
    They need a king who lives in submission to the Lord and leads the people in obedience.

For 2 Samuel 7:18–29, you will explain what David understood regarding the promises which God made to him and how they relate to the coming Messiah. You will also reflect on what it means for David to go and sit in God’s presence and what the content of his prayer reveals about God’s King.
