Taking precautions for the weak in faith does not infringe on your own faith: “The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves (Romans 14:22). Here, just before addressing the weak in faith in Romans 14:23, Paul first addresses those who are strong in faith. Your faith should never be used to rule over your weak brother or sister when it comes to eating meat and drinking wine. When it comes to our faith we stand before God alone, since faith is in essence a reaction to his revelation—a sacrifice of thanksgiving. Faith therefore must always ascend on high. If you have faith, you should not feel guilty when you eat and drink everything allowed by that faith—this is the liberating power of that faith. Experiencing this liberation in a world full of taboos and fears, however, makes you a fortunate person.1
