Some church members have the gift of contributing, which entails being able to distribute help to others. They ought not to boast about it (see the negative example of Ananias and Saphira, Acts 5:1–11). When you give something away, you should do so without ulterior motives. The other person must be the genuine object of the giver. Although the example can include people in the church who distribute gifts of others, the primary focus of the example here is people who give from their own bounty. Indeed, you cannot be a distributor (a deacon) if you are not a generous giver yourself.1
8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
