It should first be noted that with this statement Nehemiah attaches himself and the other leaders directly to the God of heaven
(note the pronoun his
in we his servants
). We need also to notice that their own identity as servants
of this God of heaven
guarantees that they will certainly arise and build.
No one can stop what God intends to do, be it directly or through his servants.
20 Then I replied to them, “The God of heaven will make us prosper, and we his servants will arise and build, but you have no portion or right or claim in Jerusalem.”
