What do the words “and I turned back” imply?

Nehemiah 2:15 (ESV)

15 Then I went up in the night by the valley and inspected the wall, and I turned back and entered by the Valley Gate, and so returned.

The term used means simply to turn back. Once Nehemiah had inspected this precipitous southeast section of the wall, he had seen enough and so turned around to return home.
