1. Nehemiah 2:6 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What do we learn from the statement that “it pleased the king to send me”?

Nehemiah 2:6 (ESV)

6 And the king said to me (the queen sitting beside him), “How long will you be gone, and when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me when I had given him a time.

King Artaxerxes was clearly so comfortable with Nehemiah’s request that it seemed right to the king to agree to a commission. We are not told how the king came to his decision or what grounds he used to justify it. (Nehemiah 2:8 will tell us.)
