Commentary on Lamentations 4:4 (Summary)

Lamentations 4:4 (ESV)

4 The tongue of the nursing infant sticks to the roof of its mouth for thirst; the children beg for food, but no one gives to them.

Jeremiah draws such a heart-rending picture of the famine that it appears he must have seen all these things himself. He saw babies who could find no milk from their mothers, since their mothers were famished. He also saw children who begged for bread, without finding any.
