Who were David’s men and Joab raiding?

2 Samuel 3:22 (ESV)

22 Just then the servants of David arrived with Joab from a raid, bringing much spoil with them. But Abner was not with David at Hebron, for he had sent him away, and he had gone in peace.

David’s men were likely raiding enemies outside of Israel so as to gather income (see 1 Samuel 27:8–11; 1 Samuel 30:26; 2 Samuel 4:2) for David’s kingdom.1
