Why did Joab and Abishai continue pursuing Abner?

2 Samuel 2:24 (ESV)

24 But Joab and Abishai pursued Abner. And as the sun was going down they came to the hill of Ammah, which lies before Giah on the way to the wilderness of Gibeon.

Asahel was the brother of Joab and Abishai. Since he had been killed by Abner, they were eager for vengeance and did not allow Asahel's death to stop them from their pursuit.1
