23 “Saul and Jonathan, beloved and lovely! In life and in death they were not divided; they were swifter than eagles; they were stronger than lions.

Jonathan, a friend of David, remained loyal to his father to the very end.1 He fought in Saul’s battles and sought to do good for his father even if his primary loyalty lay with David (1 Samuel 20:1–42).
