Since the man had spent some time in Israel, he should have known better than to lift his hand against the Lord’s anointed since to do so is to lift your hand against the Lord himself.1 The sanctity of the Lord’s anointed kept David from sin and he expected that it should have done the same for this man.2
14 David said to him, “How is it you were not afraid to put out your hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed?”
