, i.e. set you free
—the reading followed by the ESV in Romans 8:2 instead of me,
i.e. hath made me free
(KJV, see also NIV). The latter reading is to be preferred as it allows for the more the personal tone of the preceding chapter, Romans 7:1–25, to continue to resound longer.1
