The wickedness described in Jeremiah 23:9–14 can hardly go unnoticed by the Lord. All of them, both the prophets and people of Judah, have become, to the Lord, like Sodom and Gomorrah, deserving to be destroyed. The Lord’s own covenant people have fallen so far that they are no different from those two great cities of idolatry and wickedness that faced the Lord’s wrath in the time of Abraham (Genesis 19:23–29). Now the Lord’s own people will face the same fate.
14 But in the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies; they strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns from his evil; all of them have become like Sodom to me, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah.”
