What does 1 Samuel 22:6–23 reveal about what God does in my place and on my behalf (the work of the Son)?
Jesus Christ is the King who was subjected to an unfair trial and killed on trumped-up charges. He is the only truly innocent man who ever lived and died. In his life, he was perfectly obedient to God and did not therefore deserve death but eternal life with god in glory. In his death, he bore the wrath of God against the sins of God’s people. Now, having been raised from the dead, he can offer refuge to those who come to him. Refuge from the wrath to come when he returns in judgment and destroys all those opposed to God.
6 Now Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men who were with him. Saul was sitting at Gibeah under the tamarisk tree on the height with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him.
