There was another external adversary that was raised up against Solomon. This was Rezon the son of Eliada. This man was a fugitive fleeing from his master, Hadadezer, who was king of Zobah. Zobah was an Aramean (Syrian) kingdom that waged war two separate times on Israel while David was king. It was at this time that Rezon fled the service of Hadadezer and became the leader of a band of outlaws. This is much like the case of David when he fled from King Saul. At some point Hadadezer died, whereupon Rezon went to Damascus and there was made king. He became an enemy of Israel and an adversary of Solomon throughout Solomon’s life.
23 God also raised up as an adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master Hadadezer king of Zobah.
