As we come to 1 Kings 10:14, the writer begins to show the great wealth that Solomon acquired. The list begins with the acquisition of gold. The time frame is said to be in one year,
and this could be interpreted as each year. This interpretation is not necessary, for the words could indicate that the acquisition of this weight of gold took place in only one year, not every year. In fact, the trade mission to Ophir appears to have taken more than a year to complete.
There is a matter that may be confusing to some careful readers of Scripture. That is found in the number 666. This is the same number that is associated with the beast of which the book of Revelation speaks. There it is called the number of his name.

To the Hebrew mind, the number seven was a number of completion, while the number six was a number of incompletion. Yet, we are not in a passage of Scripture that is in any way predictive prophecy. We should understand that this was literally the weight of the gold that was brought in that year.
In addition to the gold acquired and weighed as 666 talents was gold also acquired through the payment of tribute by foreign kings. Therefore, this mention of tribute is a mark of the greatness of the empire of Solomon.
