What does it mean for there to be famines and earthquakes in various places?

Matthew 24:7 (ESV)

7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

Famines and earthquakes have always been part of this world ever since the Fall and they will continue to happen until the Son of Man returns in glory (see Revelation 6:8; Revelation 18:8). The sin of Adam has impacted creation so that it is also groaning and longing for the day when the Son of Man will return to make all things new (see Romans 8:19–22).1
