Preaching the gospel in dangerous situations

Acts 14:1–18 (ESV)

1 Now at Iconium they entered together into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed.

We are given a clear picture of the risks that come with Gospel ministry. It is not a work which is necessarily safe and comfortable, certainly not when you are going into new places or challenging the religious elite. This is a dangerous calling, a life of trouble and hardship.

Nevertheless, it remains the means by which Jesus Christ is working to gather his church. As a result of Paul and Barnabas’ work, there are believers in Iconium, believers in Lystra, believers in Derbe. Praise God for the godly men who go and speak in places where they are not wanted. Praise God for those who work hard to share special revelation and bear witness to Jesus Christ. Praise God for their courage and the strategic plans made by his church. Praise God for all his servants throughout the world, that there are always feet to be found who are willing to proclaim his grace, feet willing to bring good news. Praise God for these feet because without them there can be no salvation.
