The Jews who were opposed to Paul and Barnabas most likely came with arguments stating that the newcomers were creating unnecessary division in the town by advocating for the worship of different gods. As a result of their efforts, Paul and Barnabas are no longer permitted to enter the city and they are forced to leave the region.1 An official expulsion takes place.2
50 But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.
