What does it mean for God to endure conduct?

Acts 13:18 (ESV)

18 And for about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.

Paul refers to the fact that the generation which came out of Egypt was a generation who subsequently rebelled against God (Psalm 78:8). Throughout the time in the desert, they had to be endured by God, that is to say, they did not respond to God’s grace with the obedience that comes from faith.
