Job 29:7 (ESV)

7 When I went out to the gate of the city, when I prepared my seat in the square,

Job enjoyed favour not only in God’s eyes, but also in the eyes of people. This loss of people’s favour is the third greatest loss that he feels, after the loss of God’s favour and the loss of his children. He was used to going to the gate of the city, where court sittings and other meetings would be held.
