Did Herod die when he was struck down?

Acts 12:23 (ESV)

23 Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.

Herod did not die immediately. The Jewish historian Josephus testifies that he remained bedridden and in pain for five days before he died.1 It is possible that he suffered from appendicitis2 that led to peritonitis.3
