The city of Salamis was a port city on the east coast of Cyprus located about 100 kilometres across the ocean to the west of Seleucia.1 It served as a trading centre for merchants from Cilicia, Syria, Phoenicia and Egypt who came to buy/sell olive oil, wool, wine and grain.2
