What does Peter mean when he says that he began to speak?

Acts 11:15 (ESV)

15 As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning.

Clearly Peter did more than just beginning to speak (see Acts 10:34–44). He was not able to finish saying all the things he wanted to say however when the Spirit came.1
