Why does Peter begin his sermon with a reference to Jesus’ baptism by John?
Acts 10:37 (ESV)
37you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed:
The reference to John the Baptist highlights the importance of the last old covenant prophet.1 It is also a natural starting place for Jesus’ ministry since his baptism was when he was publicly anointed by God to be the Messiah.2
