1. Acts 10:14 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does Peter object to the command he received in his vision?

Acts 10:14 (ESV)

14 But Peter said, “By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”

Peter considers the command to come from an unverified source (an unknown voice).1 As such, he sees it as a temptation to engage in behaviour that contradicts old covenant law, a test of his devotion to God.
