Acts of God confirming the gospel

Acts 9:19–31 (ESV)

19 and taking food, he was strengthened.

On the topic of miracles, it is worth mentioning that they are a present foretaste of a coming reality. When Jesus was on earth, the miracles he did were always for the sake of helping people and confirming that he is the Messiah. For his apostles, miracles have the same purpose. They serve to help people and confirm the message they proclaimed about Jesus. In the absence of apostles today, we do not expect miracles to happen in the same way that they did when the church was established. The men who were empowered by God for this work have passed away. That does not mean that God is unable to act in this world. He can and does work miracles in our time. We can pray for healing; we can pray for conversions – any prayer that is in keeping with the pattern which our Lord taught us is appropriate for the Christian.
