1. Acts 9:13 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Who are the saints in Jerusalem?

Acts 9:13 (ESV)

13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem.

Saints is a translation of a Greek word that literally means holy ones. Believers in Jesus Christ are thus called God’s holy people (see further Acts 9:32, Acts 9:41; Acts 26:10).1 This expression communicates the conviction that the people of God are the people who recognize Jesus of Nazareth as the Christ and submit to him. God’s people are thus not ethnically defined (descent from Abraham) but spiritually (faith in Christ).2
