1. Exodus 6:6 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

When is God’s promise to redeem his people fulfilled?

Exodus 6:6 (ESV)

6 Say therefore to the people of Israel, ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment.

In Exodus 14:1–15:27 the promise is fulfilled: the passage through the Red Sea and the destruction of Pharaoh (and his soldiers) become the definite liberation. Israel then sings, You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed (Exodus 15:13).
