1. Jeremiah 15:19 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How will the people turn to Jeremiah, but he “shall not turn to them”?

Jeremiah 15:19 (ESV)

19 Therefore thus says the LORD: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them.

The play on the different meanings of the Hebrew root sub continues. The Lord reminds Jeremiah that his task as a prophet is to faithfully speak the Lord’s word so that the people turn to the Lord in repentance. It is not his task to be swayed by the rebellion of the people and to turn to them in compromise as the false prophets do.
