The Lord will have compassion on the people of Judah as he restores them to the heritage
he has given them by returning them to their land. This promise of restoration is mentioned throughout the Old Testament including many passages in Jeremiah (Jeremiah 16:15; Jeremiah 23:3; Jeremiah 24:6; Jeremiah 27:22; Jeremiah 29:10, Jeremiah 29:14; Jeremiah 30:3; Jeremiah 32:37; Jeremiah 33:10–11, Jeremiah 33:26).1 The Lord’s covenant with Israel also included this promise of restoration after exile (Deuteronomy 30:1–5).
16 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, ‘As the LORD lives,’ even as they taught my people to swear by Baal, then they shall be built up in the midst of my people.
