How have the lying pens of the scribes made the Lord’s law into a lie?

Jeremiah 8:8 (ESV)

8 “How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us’? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes has made it into a lie.

The scribes (Hebrew, soper) were a special class of people who had the specific job of writing the official records of Israel’s history and of making copies of the Torah. They also took on a teaching function to explain and teach what they copied (2 Samuel 8:17; 2 Samuel 20:25; 1 Kings 4:3; 2 Kings 12:10; Isaiah 19:11–12)1 Their lying pens have made the law of the Lord into a lie. Clearly, their teaching contradicted or undermined the Law.2
