The assembly does not have enough sense to ask, Do we have any witnesses to this crime?
Rather, all the people arose as one man,
and in effect render a guilty verdict. They do so without hearing the accused, without summoning Benjamin to cross-examine the testimony, and without consulting the Lord. This is self-styled justice.
