Hospitality and the Deacon

Acts 6:1–7 (ESV)

1 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution.

Fifthly is hospitality as a category of service. Hospitality includes both food, and at times it can include mercy. And we see that these two things – food and mercy – are at the centre of what the deacons were first doing in the book of Acts. And it is connected to hospitality – caring for those through things such as food and housing.1
