What does the image of her hands on the threshold convey?

Judges 19:27 (ESV)

27 And her master rose up in the morning, and when he opened the doors of the house and went out to go on his way, behold, there was his concubine lying at the door of the house, with her hands on the threshold.

The concubine is too weak to go any further, to knock, and to call out. Instead, she has collapsed at the door, with her hands outstretched on the threshold. She is trying to get into the place, to get away from suffering and abandonment and into a place of safety and rest. The image presents to us in no uncertain terms a picture of mute helplessness, of a woman in agony and horrid suffering.
