1. Jeremiah 6:8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does the Lord warn Jerusalem that he will turn from her in disgust and make her a desolation?

Jeremiah 6:8 (ESV)

8 Be warned, O Jerusalem, lest I turn from you in disgust, lest I make you a desolation, an uninhabited land.”

The Lord’s oracle ends in Jeremiah 6:8 with a warning that he will turn from you in disgust. The literal meaning of these words is that the heart of the Lord would be alienated from Judah. The result will be that he will turn in disgust and make the city a desolation and the land uninhabited.1 The fact, however, that the oracle ends with a warning suggests that the Lord has not yet turned away.2 There is hope yet that Jerusalem may turn to the Lord in repentance.
