1. Jeremiah 5:8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why were the people “well-fed, lusty stallions”?

Jeremiah 5:8 (ESV)

8 They were well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for his neighbor’s wife.

If there was any doubt about the state of Judah’s morality from the description in Jeremiah 5:7, it is totally removed by the description of the men of Judah as well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for his neighbour’s wife. The men who started sleeping with prostitutes (Jeremiah 5:7) are now pursuing each other’s wives. Jeremiah is describing a community that is sinking into uncontrolled sexual immorality. Society is crumbling as the people openly revolt against the Lord and his covenant.1
