1. Jeremiah 4:30 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why do her lovers despise her and seek her life?

Jeremiah 4:30 (ESV)

30 And you, O desolate one, what do you mean that you dress in scarlet, that you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold, that you enlarge your eyes with paint? In vain you beautify yourself. Your lovers despise you; they seek your life.

Jerusalem will not receive a warm embrace from the lovers she turns to. The nations she has looked to for help, instead of trusting in her true husband (Jeremiah 3:1), never intended to help her. They only sought to exploit and plunder her. They come now as the enemies that despise her and they seek her life.
