What does it mean for Jesus to be called Lord?

Matthew 7:21 (ESV)

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

To call Jesus Lord is to acknowledge him as God’s King and to recognize that he is the Lord of the final harvest, the eschatological judge of the end time.1 With these words, Jesus claims the role of final judge.2
