As Leviticus 26:1–46 comes to a close, Leviticus 26:40 introduces the theme of hope and restoration. Israel’s covenant unfaithfulness and subsequent exile will not be the final outcome for the nation. This judgment does not prove that God has rejected his people. Rather he punishes them precisely because they are his own (Amos 3:2). If the Hebrews confess their sin, the Lord will deliver them from exile and restore their blessings within the land of Canaan.
